What lies in the Fourth House reflects the foundations of our lives. The more private parts of self where we find comfort and security. Here we see how our heritage can influence the households we build as well as how easy it is/isn't for one to put down roots.
Fourth House: Roots/Ancestors/Family/Private Self
Aries ... This placement can be extremely tough as it often speaks of a childhood home life that was extremely fiery - whether self-destructive behaviors were present, or the environment could have been constantly categorized to be in conflict or chaos.... Often it speaks of imbalanced relationships between the holder of this placement and the parental unit of the opposite sex, especially during the early developmental years... It's a tight rope to traverse in that this placement can offer emotional clarity with respect to the rest of their chart and be the reason one has the ability to make fast confident decisions, however, it often speaks of emotional hurts caused from a deep held anger within the family environment.
Taurus ... Taurus in the Fourth personalities tend to come from very traditional albeit often strict upbringings. This provides them with an often comforting and strong foundation to build from... Even in the case of their childhood having difficulties there tends to be a competence around handling family matters present when this earth zodiac resides along someone's IC...
All in all, this is a wonderful position for the Fourth to be in... It showcases individuals that are supporting to those they consider family, whether blood or not, with it being a position that comes from an attitude of care/devotion at all times.
Gemini ... Those with Gemini found here often see inconsistency within their early life that greatly molds how they view family. This then ends up affecting how they go about creating their own once adulthood is reached. Sometimes the inconsistency can be seen in upbringings where there are stepparents, or in one way or another, more than one mother/father... Either way it is sliced, there tends to develop a contrasting set of views regarding how one should interact with family and family matters.
Often there was a lot of shifting back and forth between households... Those with this placement then struggle with the ability to mend the double life they were led to lead into one tangible experience... In most cases, this also represents with a favoritism aspect to one parental unit or the other... That is even more likely if there was a parent whom over rationalized or criticized the native's emotional expression, leaving them feeling inadequate.
Cancer ... Cancer located along the IC leads to some entanglements. Natives with this zodiacal energy exerting its authority over the Fourth often have a close connection to the parental unit of the opposite sex... This then influences matters in the Seventh House quite a bit when they seek a mirror of the attitudes shown them early on… If said relationship is positive there will likely be feelings of nurturement and protection but if the relationship is found lacking or strained, a shadow can form over the relationships built throughout their adult life.
As one's emotional inheritance is highly profiled here, the searching for and wanting to iron out any mysteries which lay before them intrigue these personalities a great deal… Persons with shared DNA/life experiences tend to fascinate the mind with this placement, making ancestral studies and personal genealogy likely hobbies.
Leo ... Having Leo in your Fourth House speaks to a line of ancestors who were proud and confident.... This self-assuredness and character most definitely finds its way through the path of family members with dignity being a strong suit of this placement.... Finding personal satisfaction is found within the home life/family and most likely in the relationships one has with parents/grandparents/close aunts & uncles .... An environment of acceptance, joy, and fun then affords itself when it comes to family interactions.
Virgo ...In a house that controls our expression of family, Virgo is not a natural fit and as so leaves one with a distant attitude... This does not necessarily speak of an emotional hurt per say but emotional lack... As if something felt like it was missing from the start. Such a feeling can be attributed to a cold relationship with the parent of the opposite sex or an aloof relationship with one's parents/grandparents in general...... Often these individuals were not celebrated in their accomplishments as a child, which leads them to have a hard time accepting their accomplishments themself as life progresses...
These individuals do develop a strength in intelligence though and it becomes something they rely on from an early age.
Libra ... With Libra the zodiac persistently calling for balance in one's life and being the natural energy ruler regarding relationships, it affects the Fourth in a strong manner. We see personalities that become very much tied to the relationships they witnessed between their own parents growing up. If it was a healthy one, theirs too will likely follow suit... If it was a strained one however, two roads can be taken. Either the personality will subconsciously repeat their parents' mistakes or, the more self-aware one is, will vehemently make sure they avoid the pitfalls they were privy to at a young age.
There is also a tendency to have a “Book Cover” life, in which what they broadcast to the world doesn’t quite reflect the actualities of their home life. An equilibrium of superiority and inferiority must be worked out some point throughout their life. Thankfully, even in the case of a dysfunctional upbringing it is likely that one parent possessed a calm reason and can be a touchstone to guide them when building their own families later in life.
Scorpio ... It is essential for these personalities to find forgiveness for former discretions against them and to positively outlet their negative emotions regarding the past... Scorpio Fourth House personalities are on the constant search for unconditional love. They in fact yearn for it.... Until they find this though they can be easily manipulated because they're always trying to convince themselves, and allow others to convince them, that they have found said love...
While this is one of the most difficult positions anybody can have in their chart, it is also the strongest emotional tie, for if and when they find their true loves companion, they will forge unbreakable bonds.
Sagittarius ... "The world's waiting to be discovered."... This is very much the mindset of somebody who has a Sagittarian Fourth. A want to travel and explore leads these individuals to never quite feel at home anywhere, rather have the mindset that the world itself is their home.... Without strong ties to any one location, there will, more likely than not, be multiple emotional based ties to roots they seek but yet can't put their finger on why. Their wide interests will be evident in places they choose to visit and/or relocate to as th appeal of living abroad is dominant with this placement ....
In order to maintain a stable emotional foundation these individuals will stick to their philosophical way of life and the morals/values they have set for themselves regardless of where others stand... All in all, this is a very positive placement. Just one that pushes the native out the door as opposed to settling down anywhere.
Capricorn ... There is no pretty way to really paint this picture. Those with Capricorn here tend to have hard upbringings that often leave them with some level of emotional discontentment... The major benefactor to this though, being those they love later in life... They are familiar with the feeling of not being cocooned in a sense of love at all times, and as so tend to treat those they care deeply about in an extremely loving manner.... In a way, making up for the mistakes of their parents and grandparents. It is a challenging position no doubt, but it is definitely something in which a positive can come from.
Aquarius ... Independence is key here as it often is with all things Aquarius. This air elemental in one's Fourth alludes to coming from a home of divorce, or another type of upheaval, the majority of the time. The events often occurring in the home when the native is young in age... This causes them to be self-reliant and always wanting for emotional independence or clarity within relationships they forge later on... Without that they cannot find personal contentment... This does not mean they are unloving individuals that push away close relationships, just that an underlying fear of being let down can color how they view interpersonal interactions.
Pisces... Unfortunately, there is a sense of martyrdom with this combination…. Having Pisces on the cusp of one's IC tends to highlight some type of family secrets that have gone on in generations past… Possibly lineage that was up to some 'Not So Appropriate Shenanigans'... It then becomes more likely the ties between one's parental units, or the grandparents that acted like parental units, were strained in some fashion... This can leave the individual with a detached feeling of loss and loneliness, as if they haven't a place to belong... In such cases it spurs them to forge a family-like community for themself as a replacement or spend life in search of ancestors that feel more relatable, trying to communicate with said in non-mundane ways.
